TCS Interview Guide
Everything we know about interviewing at TCS: the process stage by stage, what each round tests, and reports from candidates who interviewed.
Interviewing at TCS
What the process looks like, and what TCS is really testing for.
You go through multiple checkpoints that mix coding and fundamentals with HR style fit checks. Several roles report an initial screening, HR screening, and a behavioral or managerial interview, so you should expect both technical evaluation and communication fit to appear in some form.
The technical questions you will actually see concentrate on Algorithms and Data Structures, SQL and SQL Joins, and basic OOP and language fundamentals. In the topic data, SQL is the highest prominence topic (percentile 84), followed closely by SQL Joins (percentile 80), then Algorithms and Data Structures (around the mid 70s). Java and Python also show up prominently, with C++ also present but less frequent.
Your reported loop is not just one coding test. Candidates often complete an aptitude or national qualifier type test, then progress to technical interviews with coding and problem solving, and then HR and sometimes managerial rounds, with some roles also reporting a final assessment stage and a wait after interviews for the decision.
Offer rate is extremely low in the candidate reports (0.6%), so you should treat every stage, especially the standardized qualifier or online assessment and the HR communication rounds, as a gating step and prepare to perform consistently rather than banking on one strong interview.
The TCS interview process
5 stages, based on 528 candidate reports.
Initial Screening
Short (reported as an early screening step)You get an initial screening that focuses on basic qualifications and fit. Multiple roles report telephonic or video style screening to cover motivation and background alignment with the role.
TCS National Qualifier Test (NQT) and/or Online Assessment
Variable (reported as offline for NQT and online for assessments)You may take a standardized NQT style assessment that evaluates cognitive and technical skills, including quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, verbal ability, and coding proficiency. Some candidates also report an online assessment focused on fundamentals related to DevOps tools and concepts, depending on the track.
Technical Assessment
Variable (reported as real-time problem solving)After the qualifier or online step, you may complete a technical assessment to evaluate your technical expertise with real-time problem solving. Reports also describe this phase as mixing fundamentals testing with role relevant checks.
Technical Interviews
Multiple rounds (reported as technical panel or rounds)You attend technical interviews that assess domain expertise using coding and problem solving scenarios. The topic data indicates prominent coverage of SQL, SQL Joins, and Algorithms and Data Structures, with additional presence of OOP concepts and language fundamentals like Python and Java.
Behavioral and Managerial Interviews, plus HR Interview
Final stage or late stages (varies by report)You may be evaluated through behavioral questions on teamwork and leadership, and through a managerial interview assessing leadership and alignment. Several roles also report an HR interview focused on cultural fit and interpersonal skills, and some processes include final discussions to finalize evaluation.
