After a recruiter conversation, I ended up with two interview rounds. The first one was pretty direct: we walked through my CV and my background in the domain, and they asked how familiar I was with data and the tools I’d listed. What stood out was that they only went technical if I claimed I knew the topic—so most of the pressure felt like it was tied to being honest about what I’d actually worked with.
The second, final round leaned more toward HR-style discussion. They used scenarios and situational questions about how I’d handled difficult tasks, and I also had to do a bit of self-assessment. Overall the difficulty matched the expectations—average—not something with unusual formats or curveballs, and it felt like they were trying to understand fit as much as capability.

Difficult Neutral Malaysia
My process started with assessments after I applied online, followed by a virtual technical interview with department leadership. After I passed that first technical screen, I learned—too late—that there would be another assessment during the interview itself, delivered verbally while questions were shown on screen. I wasn’t informed ahead of time, and it felt like a full additional evaluation rather than a quick interview check, so it really threw off my preparation.
After the technical round, there was another interview with the local manager. That one felt more casual—talking through myself and the job—and even though I was told that getting to that stage meant I’d already done well, I didn’t receive an offer. The recruiter then went silent after follow-ups, despite promising an update. Looking back, the hardest part for me wasn’t only the difficulty—it was how the extra assessment was handled and the lack of communication at the end.
