For a senior/staff-style track, my path was fairly focused: two coding interviews and then a system design round. The coding interviews didn’t feel like the usual algorithm drill. One of them leaned into finding flaws in existing code, which honestly felt closer to real engineering work than typical trivia. The other required both design thinking and implementation, so I wasn’t just writing code—I had to think through structure and tradeoffs as I went.
Overall, the questions felt practical rather than leet-code style. I could tell they were optimizing for engineering judgment and the ability to work through unfamiliar scenarios instead of memorized patterns. The system design afterward fit the same theme: more about reasoning about systems than performing a memorized template.

My process stretched out longer than I expected—after what became multiple rounds plus a case study, I ended up waiting about a month. I remember going through a total of six rounds, and at some point there was a case-study component layered into the flow. The anticipation kept building because the timeline didn’t move quickly, even though the work itself felt like it was going somewhere.
Eventually I learned the company had canceled the position and also shifted the team from Seattle to San Francisco. When I asked whether that was fair, the answer I got was essentially to frame it as though I’d just been rejected rather than something had changed behind the scenes. I left the experience feeling frustrated more than anything—the slow wait and the late explanation made it feel like the process didn’t fully respect the time I’d invested.

Distilled from the reports
Interview Structure & Timeline
The interview process typically involves multiple rounds, starting with a recruiter screen, followed by technical interviews, system design discussions, and behavioral assessments, often spanning several weeks. Candidates reported varying timelines, with some experiencing delays and a lack of communication.

Technical Interviews
Technical interviews focus on practical coding tasks and system design rather than traditional algorithm questions, emphasizing real-world engineering challenges and collaborative problem-solving. Candidates are encouraged to engage with the code and demonstrate their reasoning and design thinking.

Behavioral Assessments
Behavioral interviews often include discussions about leadership and personal contributions, but candidates noted a mismatch between the questions asked and the strengths they felt they could showcase. Some found the behavioral portion to be less aligned with their experiences, leading to uncertainty about expectations.

Case Study Component
Some candidates encountered a case study as a significant part of the interview process, which required them to design and present solutions. This format was noted to be challenging, and candidates felt they needed to prepare differently for this type of assessment.
