Outschool Interview Guide
Everything we know about interviewing at Outschool: the process stage by stage and what each round tests.
Interviewing at Outschool
What the process looks like, and what Outschool is really testing for.
Outschool runs a mix of hiring-manager conversations and technical evaluations. Across reported steps, you should expect at least one discussion with a hiring manager, and at least one technical-focused interview that can include live coding.
What you are tested on maps closely to the topic mix in the extracted question data. UX/UI Design, JavaScript, and portfolio or case study presentation show up at the top level of prominence, and the same is true for marketing analytics, financial analysis, and operations management. SQL and data analysis also appear as prominent topics, and Interview Communication, Professional Conduct, and other communication and professionalism topics show up as well.
Based on the reported process steps, the loop can include early screening, one or more hiring manager interviews, technical interviewing, and at least one final-stage conversation that ties back to experience and alignment with the company mission. After interviews, candidates report an Offer Discussion step, but the aggregated offer rate in the reports is 0.0%, so you should not rely on these data to predict outcomes from passing rounds.
The topic prominence shows you should be ready to connect your technical work to presentation and communication, not just solve problems. Portfolio or case study presentation and Interview Communication are among the most prominent topics in the data, alongside live coding and core technical areas like JavaScript, SQL, and analytics.
The Outschool interview process
5 stages, based on 61 candidate reports.
Initial connection and/or recruiter screen
Varies by candidateYou may start with an initial connection with a hiring manager or a peer designer, and in at least one reported path there is also a phone screen with a recruiter to discuss background and role fit. Use this stage to align on what you want to do in the role and to be ready to speak to your relevant experience.
Screening and hiring manager interviews
Varies by candidateSome candidates undergo an initial screening, followed by one or more conversations with a hiring manager. These interviews focus on qualifications and interest in the role, and they set up the technical and deep-dive discussions that follow.
Technical interview
Varies by candidateThe technical interview evaluates problem-solving and operations management expertise, and it may include live coding exercises. Prepare for prominent technical areas from the topic data, including JavaScript, and be ready for SQL and data analysis questions.
Deep-dive conversations, panel, and/or portfolio/case study presentation
Varies by candidateYou may meet cross-functional partners in deep-dive conversations that can include design critiques and discussions focused on company values. Some reported paths include panel or final presentation-style interviews where you discuss a portfolio or case studies and show strategic thinking, plus strong communication.
Final interview and offer discussion
Varies by candidateAt least one report describes a final interview where you summarize your experience and confirm alignment with the company mission. If you advance, there is also an offer discussion step where you can ask final questions before acceptance.
