I went through a short, DSA-and-project-focused process for a Java backend role, and it played out around a single LeetCode-style theme. The first round was a DSA round paired with project discussion and follow-up questions. I was asked two DSA problems, and one of them was the “populate next right pointers in each node” problem.
During the DSA part, the conversation wasn’t only about arriving at the result—it also turned into an explanation check, where they followed up on how I was thinking. After that, the interview pivoted into my project work, and I had to connect the algorithms back to what I had done, answering questions that dug into my implementation choices.

Average Negative Gurgaon, Haryana
I interviewed for a Java backend role and ran into a very specific kind of problem in the first technical stage. The round centered on a DSA question—merging two sorted arrays. I walked through my approach and I offered multiple ways to solve it, explaining different tradeoffs and variations.
The interviewer, though, seemed focused on a single “most optimized” direction and didn’t really follow my reasoning even after I presented several options. I could feel the conversation narrowing rather than evaluating the full set of ideas I was sharing, and that mismatch hurt my confidence in the moment. The end result was a rejection after that round.
