I went through a pretty focused process centered on debugging. A recruiter screen kicked it off, and then I was dropped into a technical round where I had to debug an existing codebase—around the order of a few hundred lines with multiple nested classes in the setup I saw. The basic expectation was logical, step-by-step debugging: I worked through the code until the tests passed.
In my session, I made good progress. I could reason through the structure and get most of the tests moving in the right direction, and even in cases where I hit a late snag, I still felt like I was thinking cleanly about the logic. The difficulty level felt “average” overall, but the interviewer’s pace and style affected how it felt in the moment—at times the discussion felt rushed, and I didn’t always get the space I needed for clarifying questions.

Average Neutral Ireland
The process started after a recruiter reached out on LinkedIn. I sent over my CV, did an HR screening call, and then moved into the debugging stage. The technical work centered on debugging code and getting the tests passing; I got most of them through, but when I got to one of the last issues, I ran out of time trying to fix it.
What surprised me was that I was still invited to the next round even after that time squeeze. The hiring manager interview and the system design interview were scheduled back-to-back within a single time block, so I went from problem-solving mode into design mode quickly. During the hiring manager call, the interviewer seemed distracted and didn’t always respond as if they were listening closely, which made it hard to read the tone.
