It started with a phone screening and then, about a week later, I had an online assessment that took roughly two hours. After that, I spoke with four senior software engineers across technical and behavioral questions. The whole thing felt fairly easy and paced in a way that didn’t feel overly stressful.
I was able to follow along and answer what they asked, and the questions weren’t wildly out of left field compared to my background. Even though it was a bit of a longer day overall because of the assessment plus multiple technical check-ins, the difficulty felt manageable. I didn’t receive an offer, but it didn’t leave me feeling like I was completely out of my depth—more like I went through a straightforward process and just didn’t land the final step.

I got pulled into the process pretty quickly, but the recruiter call caught me off guard because it came out of the blue—I wasn’t prepared for the timing. Still, it ended up feeling more like an informative conversation than a high-pressure screening. After that, I moved into a technical round centered on higher performance computing.
For the technical portion, I spoke with a principal engineer and was hit with a lot of high-performance computing questions. I tried to cover things broadly, but I realized during the conversation that I should have focused more tightly on what I’d actually worked with. Another technical assessment followed the recruiter step, and while I kept things professional and felt well-informed throughout, I didn’t get past the technical round. There were some comments and feedback afterward that made it clear where I fell short.
