I had a recruiter outreach via LinkedIn first, and the whole thing started because I seemed to match their criteria. After that, HR contacted me and said they wouldn’t be able to align on my salary right away—specifically because I was working in Luxembourg—before we’d even had a proper compensation discussion.
Because that conversation basically shut down the salary conversation early, it never felt like the interview process could really move forward on its own merits. I wasn’t offered the role, and the main emotion I’m left with is frustration: the negotiation piece was treated like a foregone conclusion before the discussion ever began.

Easy Positive Washington, DC
I went through a pretty straightforward, low-friction process that felt mostly like getting-to-know-you and confirming fit. It started with an HR conversation and then moved to a second round that was virtual. The tone was friendly and the questions stayed clear and conversational, mostly centered on my background, what I’d done before, and what kind of work I was looking for.
As the rounds progressed, I spoke with more than one stakeholder: HR, then a manager, and in some parts of the process there was also a higher-level leader/director step. Across the conversations, what stood out was how much they focused on how I structured my answers and whether my reasoning made sense. I also had an evaluation of English level, and while the overall vibe stayed reassuring, the compensation piece was a sticking point for me—at least in the version I experienced, the salary offer felt uncompetitive compared to the market.
