My process started with a recruiter phone screening, and not long after I was invited to an onsite tour. The walkthrough of the manufacturing site felt uncomfortable from the beginning—the guide came across as harsh and rude throughout the tour, and it colored the whole first impression.
After the tour, I was brought into two more interviews with engineers and engineering managers. A big theme was leadership: they spent a lot of time asking how I would influence or convince others to do my work. What surprised me wasn’t the difficulty of the questions, but the overall atmosphere I picked up while I was there. It felt like there was a culture problem—less openness, little agility, and a strong tendency to treat new ideas with doubt.

Easy Positive United States
After a recruiter phone call, the process stayed pretty straightforward. I ended up doing one additional round online and then a couple of in-person interviews, all focused on getting a real sense of how I worked and whether my values fit the team. Conversations felt relaxed and easy to have, and most of the questions were tied back to my resume and projects rather than anything overly theoretical.
At the start, I had expected a careful read, but one recruiter conversation stood out for the wrong reasons—there was a mismatch around my timeline, and the call ended with language suggesting they were hiring immediately even though I wasn’t available yet. That part left me disappointed, even though the overall structure of the process was the same “phone → interview(s)” flow. In the interviews themselves, I talked through my experience and how I’d approach collaboration, behavior, and day-to-day work. There was even a managerial-style round where the questions were described as easy to intermediate.
