Interviewers want to see how you prioritize, set boundaries, communicate clearly, and take ownership for delivery risk without burning out the team. They are also looking for judgment: sometimes extra effort is unavoidable, but strong leaders make it deliberate, time-bounded, and paired with scope control.
A strong answer uses a specific example with real stakes, explains how you assessed capacity, what you cut or deferred, how you communicated expectations upward and downward, and how you monitored team health during execution. The best responses show both business results and people outcomes, with a clear lesson learned rather than a generic statement like "I always care about balance."
