Databricks is a leading data and AI platform used by data engineers, data scientists, analysts, and platform administrators at large enterprises. Its product surface spans notebooks, workflows, SQL, governance, ML, and AI tooling, but users often move across these areas to complete one end-to-end job.
Databricks leadership wants to create a best-in-class user experience across core platform areas rather than optimizing each surface in isolation. Recent research shows that cross-surface workflows are a major pain point: new users can complete a single task inside one product area, but struggle when they need to move from ingestion to exploration to productionization. Internal telemetry shows that only 34% of trial workspaces activate 3 or more core surfaces in the first 30 days, and enterprise design feedback cites inconsistent navigation, duplicated concepts, and steep learning curves between personas.
You are the PM partnering with UX/UI design to define how Databricks should improve the experience across its core platform surfaces. Assume you cannot redesign everything at once and must choose where to focus first.
