Company Context
BrightPath is a mid-stage digital health company with 12M registered users across its mobile app and employer-sponsored wellness platform. It differentiates through preventive care, habit-building, and accessible coaching rather than reactive treatment.
Problem
BrightPath’s mission is to help people build healthier daily routines through simple, trustworthy, and inclusive digital experiences. The company is hiring a Product Manager for its core engagement team and wants to assess whether the candidate can translate stated personal values into product decisions that reinforce the company’s mission and vision.
Assume BrightPath is considering two roadmap directions for the next 2 quarters:
- Option A: Launch highly personalized nudges and streak mechanics to increase short-term engagement
- Option B: Invest in transparent goal-setting, accessibility improvements, and user control features that may grow engagement more slowly but strengthen trust and long-term retention
Recent data shows:
- 8-week retention is 34%, down from 39% six months ago
- Weekly active users are growing 11% QoQ, but user satisfaction among older adults and users with chronic conditions has declined
- 22% of support tickets mention notification fatigue, confusing recommendations, or lack of control over goals
Deliverables
- Explain how your personal values would align with BrightPath’s mission and vision in a product context.
- Identify the user needs and tensions behind the two roadmap options.
- Recommend which direction you would prioritize for the next 2 quarters and why.
- Define the product principles, trade-offs, and success metrics you would use to guide the decision.
- Describe how you would communicate this recommendation to leadership and cross-functional partners.
Constraints
- Only one major initiative can be staffed this half due to engineering capacity
- Budget allows for at most 6 engineers, 1 designer, and 1 data analyst
- The team must show measurable impact within 6 months
- BrightPath cannot materially increase regulatory or privacy risk through aggressive personalization
