FP&A Process Mastery & Reporting
Your fluency in Plan/LBE/LRP, close processes, and executive reporting is critical. Interviewers will test your ability to run a calendar, enforce cutoffs, and still surface timely insights. They’ll assess how you manage templates (BPC/SAC), consolidate inputs, and create executive-ready commentary that highlights actions, not just results.
Be ready to go over:
- Close cadence: Accruals, pacing, and month-end controls; tie-outs to SAP.
- Planning cycles: LRP narrative assumptions vs. annual Plan specificity; LBE agility and risk tracking.
- Executive communication: KPI selection, storytelling, and escalation frameworks.
- Advanced concepts (less common): Zero-based budgeting; driver hierarchies; centralization strategies.
Example questions or scenarios:
- “Your LBE shows an OPEX overrun. How do you structure the deck for leadership and propose offsetting actions?”
- “How do you harmonize templates across brands to ensure comparability and speed?”
- “Describe a close week workflow that balances accuracy with on-time submissions.”
Business Partnership & Communication
This is where your influence shows. You’ll align with R&D leaders, brand directors, BD, and alliance partners to shape decisions without sacrificing controls. Interviewers look for structured stakeholder management, conflict resolution, and the ability to convert analytics into clear recommendations.
Be ready to go over:
- Stakeholder mapping: Priorities, decision rights, and engagement cadence.
- Negotiation: Investment trade-offs, timing shifts, and mitigation plans.
- Storytelling: “So what?” clarity, risk-opportunity framing, and follow-through.
- Advanced concepts (less common): Change management for new reporting platforms; alliance governance forums.
Example questions or scenarios:
- “Tell me about a time you influenced a resource reallocation with limited data.”
- “An external partner proposes a new allocation key. How do you evaluate and guide the decision?”
- “How do you disagree productively with a commercial VP who wants to increase spend late in the quarter?”
Systems, Data & Automation
Expect discussion on how you use SAP, BPC, SAC, Excel, and Power BI to scale analysis and improve data quality. Interviewers will test your ability to design reliable datasets, automate repetitive tasks, and ensure audit-ready outputs.
Be ready to go over:
- Excel mastery: XLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH, dynamic arrays, Power Query, scenario toggles, error checks.
- Planning/reporting tools: BPC/SAC planning templates, hierarchies, and submission governance.
- Visualization: Power BI dashboards, DAX basics, KPI definitions, and refresh integrity.
- Advanced concepts (less common): Lightweight SQL for ad-hoc extracts; role-based access controls.
Example questions or scenarios:
- “Show how you’d structure a forecasting model with scenario selectors and built-in checks.”
- “How would you automate a weekly sales pack using Power BI while preserving version control?”
- “Describe your approach to reconciling SAP actuals to planning templates under tight deadlines.”
